Kelly Cappos is the Spinal Cord Injury Nurse Coordinator for Penn State Health Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Penn State Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, Pennsylvania, USA.

She is a bachelors prepared Registered Nurse who dedicated the majority of her career to the care of women and infants. She has earned 6 advanced certifications including Certified Brain Injury Specialist. Her diverse professional nursing experience includes: neurosurgery research; AHT education; nursing management; statewide program coordination; maternal child health; orthopedic surgery; SCI rehabilitation; medical review; and medical policy research & development at the state level.

For over 13 years, Kelly was the Nurse Coordinator for the Pennsylvania Shaken Baby Syndrome Prevention Program developed by Pediatric Neurosurgeon and AHT prevention program pioneer Dr. Mark Dias. Kelly was a contributing author to abusive head trauma articles published in the Journal of Neurosurgery: Pediatrics and JAMA Pediatrics and part of the research team who was recognized for their statewide AHT prevention efforts by receiving the PA Council on Brain Injury Award and the Penn State University Innovation Award.

Kelly has been on the planning board for all seven biennial Penn State Hershey International Conferences on Pediatric Abusive Head Trauma: Medical, Forensic & Scientific Advances & Prevention which have been held nationwide. She has extensive professional conference speaking experience on abusive head trauma at the state, national, & international levels.

Kelly has been a board member for many professional organizations including the Pennsylvania Traumatic Brain Injury Advisory Board; the Pennsylvania Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics-Suspected Child Abuse & Neglect Advisory Board; the Pennsylvania Child Death Review Team; and Prevent Child Abuse PA. Prior to her NCSBS board appointment, Kelly served as the Pennsylvania Nurse Consultant to the NCSBS for the Period of PURPLE Crying Program during 2017 and 2018.
